We had a chat with Tory and Amanda Greer, from Stainless Steel Wire & Mesh (SSWM), who have been members of FBA since 2019 and are also active members of FBA's Forum Group Program, to learn more about their family business, the Greer family history in the wire industry and the incredible work they do to protect Australians from bushfires.

SSWM was founded by Amanda & Tory’s father and mother, Andrew and Lea, back in 2002. Like many growing up in a family business, school holidays were often spent learning the business from the ground up, and now Andrew and Lea have handed over the reins. Whilst SSWM started in 2002, the Greer family business history in the wire industry dates back to 1849 when their ancestors arrived in Australia from Scotland.

Amanda and Tory both joined the wire industry over 25 years ago and they are now the General Managers and Directors of Australia’s largest stockist of stainless steel, wire, and mesh.

They have a huge range of products that supply into a diverse range of Industries including: Technology, Construction and Infrastructure, as well as products that help to protect Australians from bushfires.

We all know how harsh Australian summers can be and their Bushfire Mesh range exceeds the requirements of Australian Standard 3959. Testing has been undertaken by independent organisations for the 3 threats of bushfires: Ember Attack, Radiant Heat and Direct Flame - 98.5% of embers that pass bushfire mesh are no longer a threat.

With young families, we’ll have to wait and see if the next generation spend their school holidays learning the wire ropes too!
