Every Family Business has a story
Every September, FBNZ celebrates National Family Business Day - a day designed to recognise the invaluable contribution family businesses make to the New Zealand economy, community and culture.
This year, National Family Business Day will take place on Monday 19th September 2022.
Family businesses are the backbone of New Zealand, representing approximately 70 percent of all Australian businesses and employing approximately 50 percent of the Australian workforce.
Many of New Zealand's well known brands such as Whittaker's, Les Mills, St Pierre's Sushi and Hynds are family owned.
But it’s not just the large businesses that make a difference. The local corner store where you buy your morning paper, the vet you take your dog to for its annual check-up, the plumber who fixed your leaking tap, they are all most likely family-owned New Zealand businesses.
All family businesses, no matter how small or large they are, have one collective thing in common. They all have a family business story to tell. Whether they’re a multi-generation business, a dynamic husband and wife duo or siblings – each of their businesses are interwoven with their family values and ethos. Family businesses aren’t just in business for profits. With your support, they are building a legacy and future for their families for generations to come.

1. Download and use the National Family Business Day 2022 asset pack
We've created a free digital asset pack with a number of graphics that you can use across your social media and point of sale to fly the family business flag this September. Don't forget to use the hashtag #NFBD22 so we can share any of your posts!
2. Tell us your family business story
We’d love to hear how your family business came to be, who founded it, the history, how many generations are currently working in the business and why you decided to join the business.

3. Host a morning tea
We encourage you to celebrate with us by holding a morning tea with your family and colleagues (whether that be at your workplace or an online morning tea celebration depending on your local COVID restrictions) on Monday, 19 September.
